What do menopause and breast feeding have in common?? – VAGINAL DRYNESS!
I know this is not something we like to talk about, but it’s important. Whether your a new mom or a woman experiencing menopause, your bodies are going through a similar phenomenon – a decrease in estrogen levels. This causes vaginal dryness (as well as skin and hair dryness)
This can lead to painful intercourse, general pain throughout the day, yeast infections and UTI’s.
A common, safe, and very effective remedy for this is a low dose estrogen vaginal cream. The cream can be made of Estradiol (most common) or estriol (most effective). Both are effective and safe.
To avoid vaginal irritants and chemicals that are present in the commercially available product, get it compounded. When we compound this cream, we use a hypoallergenic base called Ellage. It is extremely gentle for use on those sensitive tissues in the vaginal area. Additionally, it is specifically formulated to help the estrogen adhere to and be absorbed by the vaginal mucosal tissue.
Estrogen creams do require a prescription. Please talk to your doctor about if estrogen creams are a good option for you. Don’t hesitate to call us with any questions!
